"Dick" Smith?
How appropriate.
Paris, obviously.
A Cairns university student got a bit of a shock when she popped into Dick Smith Electronics to buy a new mobe - the device contained 49 images of an extremely intimate nature. They included "a woman naked from the waist down lying on a bed performing a sex act, a man holding his penis and consecutive shots of the woman in her …
"The 'shocked and disgusted' customer splendidly thundered: 'It's sickening to think I've been using this phone near my face when it was used to take all of these photos.'"
Does she live in some kind of distorted Amazonian would where instead of souls cameras steal love juice from the genitals of the target? Unless it stuck to her ear. Someone should warn her that the next hand she shakes may have been used as a wanking spanner.
'The rattled victim and her partner "met with Dick Smith Electronic's area and state manager late yesterday in a bid to reach a compensation settlement but the company referred the matter to its legal department". '
It sounds like she wasn't hurt by this at all, but rather was more concerned about what would have happened if a child was exposed to the images. So how does compensation come into it?
Greed.
free quality amature pron?! Ive always dreamed of picking up one of these gems!!! a phone or camera with some nubile 20something blonde employee enjoying her freedom!!! anyway... this story is usless without photos!!!
paris, as, well... she wouldnt accidentally leave images of her for the masses to find!!!!

"We've asked the customer to bring us the phone to ascertain the nature of the images"
In private no doubt. They'll obviously take copies before clearing the offending items from the phone for re-sale
Typical they'd ask for compensation though, can't they just get a new one and love the world like a hippy instead? what would be really cool (think of the justice) if the man in the photos was her husband :o
Oh come on! LOL
Also, you'd have to pay hard cash to have that sort of pr0n downloaded to your phone, apparently. She should be pleased she's got a bargain. Some people are never happy.
Just as an aside, was the lady 'in action' also the store employee? That's a very funny way of handing your notice in.
Paris - what else?
The phone I've currently got (refurbished, via shop) hadn't had the girlfriend porn deleted from it. I assumed it was the previous owner's and not the shop staff larking around but it seems you never know.
Given it was Christmas, I was very tempted to text the number and tell her what nice antlers* she had.
* glad I didn't, it's not all that universally held to mean a tattoo on the small of the back apparently...
Read "hopes she faked enough outrage to extort some cash".
A photo of a clothed employee outside the store on a demonstration phone [AKA the last one] in a store? Outrageous! Have been possibly even telling customers how to use the phone's other features? CPW would never stoop that low!
We really need a "Won't somebody think of the children" icon. Probably a currency symbol as that sort of quote normally leads to "how much money can I get for this?"
Also: "It's sickening to think I've been using this phone near my face when it was used to take all of these photos." How close does she think the photographer got to said bits?
Although, if you're going to take pictures of your bits with a company phone, or whatever, remember to erase it afterwards!
Paris, because you can just imagine what she's done with a mobile phone!
Does anyone really buy ex-display models these days? I would rather go without and wait a while. Not 'cos of this sort of thing, but the fact that whenever you go in to Comet, PC World or wherever, you see the great unwashed with their sticky fingered kids, poking, prodding and generally attempting to test the devices on show, to destruction. Come the end of the day, the put upon store clerk has to try to Evo-stick the buttons back on and make the thing appear to work as before. Do you really want something that some rug-rat has most likely smeared his snot covered fingers all over, in your possession for your family to use?
> The rattled victim and her partner "met with Dick Smith Electronic's area and state manager late yesterday in a bid to reach a compensation settlement but the company referred the matter to its legal department".
It seems an ex gratia offer to compensate for burned ears and sore eyes was greeted with less than enthusiasm and a substantially higher counter-offer. It would be interesting to know if she threatened bad publicity. Does anyone have the mobe?
Inform supplier, so they can check devices for such material in future. Keep or delete said images depending on personal preference. Simple really. Unless of course one has the mentality of an ambulance chasing lawyer, which this lady does indeed appear to have.
"It's sickening to think I've been using this phone near my face when it was used to take all of these photos." If that is her response to a phone with porn on it, how does she respond to cocks?
"I had a dreadful feeling that word was going to crop up. That's why this is in the papers, isn't it. Because you see a way of making some cash. Greedy bitch."
The company should not have allowed this to happen. It's quite right they should be punished, by paying compensation and by receiving bad publicity.
Everyone should be encouraged to push for compensation and to let other people know when a service or a product they receive from a company is not good enough. It's people who think "oh dear, never mind" that need a good kick up the rear.
is an aussie entrepreneur who started the store chain, which is effectively the aussie version of radio shack/best buy. look him up on pikiwedia.
"I'm not disgusted by what she did, what people do in their own homes is their business. But I'm disgusted that it was left on the shelf to be sold."
sensible woman.
paris - Pics!
Huw Davies> Antlers? I thought that "Tramp Stamp" was the more commonly used phrase...
Maybe that's because "arse antlers" are a specific design and "tramp stamp" isn't?

while i can apreciate the usefullnes of your own low ish quality amature pr0n studio available in most handsets these days, with such high storage capacities people never have to delete files (esp jpg's) because by time its full there onto the next model etc, this can lead to this sort of thing, people these days just arnt concerned with digital tidyness, and assume things will just take care of themselves. tho for a friend of a friend his mistake was to plug his mobile to his pc via usb to add some mp3's unknown to him Googles Piccasa happily helped itself to the nice store of snaps on his phone and sorted it out for him, unfortunatly this placed them in amongst his family snaps, and when his mrs found said snaps and realised she wasnt in them but certain parts of him were oooo the hilarity ensued:)
be carefull ;)
/finally i can use Paris!!!

>>>What would've happened if that phone was bought for a child?
Then a child would have seen some nudity and some folks getting it on. Said kid would either have "enjoyed" the images, or would have asked their parents what this was, at which point, the parents would be forced to talk to their child about sex (shock! horror!). Am I missing the part where this is bad? Can we get over the whole "seeing nudity and/or sex hurts kids" bullsh*t? Please???
Oh, and by the way, it wasn't, so shut it.

Rattled? Really? Your compensation is a replacement phone, or a full refund of your purchase price and release from you contract. Now get out, you money-grubbing b*tch. I'm so sick of people trying to get money because someone else made a mistake. Unless this chick has been psychologically scarred by this, thus requiring years of therapy, or unless she incurred a financial loss, she needs to sit the f*ck down.
Dick Smith, aka "the Electronic Dick", lives not far from where I do.
When his friends come to visit, they generally land on the front lawn, which is a lovely landing strip. They have very good taste in planes, too.
Here is another initiative of his:

"Incidences like this are practically unheard of on new phones direct from the manufacturer. We'll decide on a course of action after the investigation is completed."
Practically unheard of? Exactly how many times have they received phones from the factory with pr0n on them?
