Nice to see US judges are reasonably immune from hype :)

It would be a sweet irony , given the current dodgy state of the entire US Bank and financial system , if she had just banked the settlement funds is the next Bank in line to financially implode on the day before the funds are cleared(All Wall Street brokerage houses have a complete list of all US Banks about to financially implode due to being over whelmed by bad debts exceeding both reserves and assets by very large margins within the next few months , and a couple of big banks are on that list too)!
Alas , after her ten finger legal friends finish with that settlement payment deducting their usual ten digit toe cutting fees , she would be lucky to raise enough of the settlement monies left for a one way ticket back to obscurity even flying with el cheapie airlines like Ryanair !
Or as Andy Warhol once said "In the future everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes." , unfortunately for this particular woman her time of fame had expired long before in another century or two or three long ago ,well before she even arrived on the scene in the first place !

Gender
Gender is a quality of grammar, being masculine/feminine/neuter. The petition you want here is to have her deported from her _sex_ (being the distinction between male and female). Sadly the PC brigade in the US are so frightened to say "sex" that they prefer to use a longer and inaccurate word instead. El Reg should have more respect for the Queen's English, or at the very least it should have less respect for PCness.

What are you talking about? $750K in cash will buy you a 1 bedroom in a great neighborhood, or a 2 bedroom in a good neighborhood in a elevator/doorman building. That will bring you $4000-$5000 monthly rental income... that's about 4x more than your standard NYC actress makes (excluding the catering side jobs).

Sarah, obviously you're entitled to dictate how your own name's spelt. No question there.
But Steve's right about 'gender'. Although, Steve, to be fair, as wrong usages go, this is a pretty well-established one. Sarah's easily got convention on her side. Gender as a synonym for sex is, sadly, pretty firmly dug in by now: the Online Etymology Dictionary dates that usage to 1963.
I'm with you, brother pedant - but we're probably going to have to accept we're not going to get many converts on this one... :o)

defected - To abandon a position or association, often to join an opposing group
It could mean "She has defected" as in, she's abandoned her association with normal, got-their-heads-on-straight women, in favor of being associated with women of the vitriolic, bat-shit-crazy variety.

The world doesn't stop at the edge of Manhattan island...
$750k is a nice retirement account back where I grew up (semi-rural Texas) or much of the rest of the US. A nice $200k house and something sensible like a Toyota Corolla bought outright every decade still leaves over $500k. It wouldn't be glamorous, but she also wouldn't necessarily have to work again.
