Does the ASA...

...have any authority over RyanAir? As they are not a UK company (I presume), then can they do anything more than stop the advert that's already run? Should they not be given the power to stop RyanAir, or others (I'm thinking of the make-up companies that feature regularly in Private Eye for age stopping nonsence), from advertising in the UK for a period of time?

Well a quick check of the torrent files and surprise surprise old windoze 98se is more popular with down loaders even after all these years then Carla will ever be(why am I not surprised about that bit )

As for her albums in English and French just let us say I won't be buying them even on a bad hair day( as to why the French album is no 5 (peaked at 3) on the billboard Euro chart and the newer English Version is no 2 just goes to show how some people are easily brainwashed or is it the soft porn album covers ?(or did some one pre buy a very large batch or three and left it in the warehouse awaiting the one euro tosser bin in 12 months time as in the past))

To me Carla is no Edith Piaf and her tonal range is extremely limited !

As for Sarko the last time I heard the moment he became a George Bush Bum Buddy number 2 to replace the discard from down under in Oz called Little Johnny , who has now become a new pariah in Oz where anyone to be seen in public associating with is a rather sudden kiss of death political death wish , it would appear that about half of those in France who voted for him now wish they had voted for the other woman instead !

As Paris would say it is far harder to prove the truth within a courtroom facing a judge then outside where you can buy and create cheap propaganda for pennies from the self wanking media reporters by flashing a bit of cleavage !

Ryanair. Given that newspapers are not widely read in France (by comparison to the UK/Ireland at any rate), the ad probably wouldn't have been seen by that many people. Go to court and all of a sudden it's splashed all over the 8 o'clock news, and captain Mick O'Leary smiles all the way to the bank with the cheap publicity. Bravo Sarko!

Ryanair is an Irish company, not a UK one. Ryanair has mirrored the growth of the Irish economy - Ireland is now one of the richest countries in Europe, and Ryanair is one of the biggest airlines. In Ireland we don't knot our knickers if Ryanair puts our Prime Minister (aka the Taoiseach) into similar ads. We and the Taoiseach just laugh and walk on. The Sarkozy ad is a version of the Benetton campaigns many years ago. If you put out a shocking ad, the media saves you millions in marketing costs by making sure everyone sees it.

I'm not against they're method of publicity, but the attitude to the ASA. If the ASA say (rightly or wrongly) that they should pull the add, why should they have the right to over-rule this? This sets a dangerous president (french or otherwise(!))

This ad was used in Ireland too. If anyone complained, I doubt if ASAI (the Irish ASA) would take it seriously. Ryanair may have to obey what the ASA say, but they are entitled to call it a load of horse pucky, if that is their opinion. It's called freedom of speech, a strange notion, but often popular in democracies.

Not 100% sure but I think it depends on who placed the add. If its ryanair's French office then they facing prosecution under French law and its up to them to prosecute ryanair (not bloody likely). If ryanair placed the add directly they are facing prosecution under European law. ie. can of worms even before there are legal institutions involved.

Ryanair are not stupid, either the can of worms is unlikely to lead to any major penalties or they are doing everything from entirely separate agencies who can go to the wall with little or no losses or comeback.

Good to see the Sarco reich have opened their mouth too soon and are going to end up with egg on their face, giving ryanair a torrent of free ads in the bargin :)
