Are those quotes correct?
Im sure Rutger's lines were not so short as that... and there was more?
Other lines also seemed somewhat shortened...
Arnold Schwarzenegger's famous "I'll be back" line from Terminator has been fingered as the movie quote people use most in everyday chat. A poll of 2,000 film buffs by the UK Film Council's myfilms.com also revealed that people were wont to utter "Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn" in the style of Rhett Butler from Gone …
Its not exactly a mis-quote, its a mis-source. This line was spoken as "Badges? We dont need no steeenking badges!", complete with suspect Mexican accent in "Blazing Saddles", in the Hedly (Heddy?) Lamarr army recruitment scene.
Yes, it probably was supposed to be a spoof from Treasure of the Sierra Madre, but there you are.
A
The line "Badges? Badges? We dont need to show you no stinking badges!" Was also said by StarScream in the original Transformers cartoon series (Ghost in the Machine, I believe the ep was).
There you go, accurate quote, and something of a techy angle at the same time (Robots, vehicles and so on. Anyone? No? Right then, where did I leave that coat?)
This seems very fishy. Surely people say "I'll be back" all the time without meaning to quote The Terminator, which gives that quote an unfair advantage. And I doubt that many people quote Roy Batty's death speech in everyday conversation.
And it seems odd that neither Trainspotting nor Pulp Fiction nor The Matrix appeared anywhere. Perhaps they were exclusively 1990s phenomena.
Is it bad form to separate more than two items with "nor" and "neither"?
The master would not approve. I choose Paris Hilton as my avatar because all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work etc
I'm suprised he didn't get more of a showing.
"May the Shwarz be with you"
"Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges!"
"Look at that","Steady as a rock","Yeah, but I shoot with this hand" <cue limbtastic epileptic fit>
Some more favourites (ok so they not from movies)
"They'll be coming after us as fast as they can"
"And that's pretty fast actually"
"Not as fast as us" <-- This is delivered in the most contemptous manner possbile.
A small prize to the retard who can guess what the above is from.
"What you've discovered Percy, if indeed it has a name, is some Green"
"Could it be? That I hold in my hand a nugget of purest Green?!"
"They stalked the land, like two great stalking things"
Nurse, I need my medication now!
1. "Help! Help! I'm being repressed!" (Monty Python and the Holy Grail) Used when being put-upon by the boss.
2. "Oh you mean an African swallow" (Paraphrase)(Monty Python and the Holy Grail). Used in cases of misunderstanding.
3. "He's not the Messiah. He's a very naughty boy!" (Life of Brian). Used when an ass-licker makes a cock-up.
4. "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!" (The Italian Job). Used in case of large scale cock-up.
5. "Here I am, brain the size of a planet, and...." (Paraphrase)(Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy). Used when assigned a menial task.
6. "Just what do you think you're doing, Dave?" (2001, A Space Odyssey). Used when you catch a colleague viewing dodgy websites.
7. "Do ya feel lucky, punk" (Dirty Harry). Used in cases of general risk taking.
...I find I use these with gay abandon:
"Butter hook!" ~ Live And Let Die
"The wankers on the street don't drink it cause they can't afford it" (along with many others too numerous to mention) ~ Withnail & I
"First you'd better stop waving it like a feather duster" often followed with "How appropriate, you fight like a cow" or "Why, did you want to borrow one?" ~ The Secret of Monkey Island (Yes, that's a game not a movie. Yes, I'm a loser. No, I don't care.)
AFAIR the great quote from the original Terminator movie at the time was "Fuck you, asshole". The adoption of "I'll be back" as the Arnie catchphrase came later as the appeal of the whole Termintor genre became more mainstream and Hollywood realised that it had a bit of a problem with image (presumably the Terminator poseable action figure that says "Fuck you, asshole" when you pull the string wasn't likely to top the Xmas sales charts). They went so far as to have Arnie use "I'll be back" whenever possible in order to reinforce the new, family-friendly, entertainment-focussed Terminator image.
The lone voice of dissent in the industry was Paul Verhoeven who resurrected "Fuck you, asshole" in "Total recall" as a side-gag, going so far as to have this one issued by a little old lady at Arnie (this one produced gales of laughter at the cinema when I saw it).
Nice to see that the extensive airbrushing work by the Pigopolist Junta seems to have paid off.
It's the anorak, thanks.
yeah, didn't Donald Pleasance do a better "Good-bye, Mr. Bond" in You Only Live Twice? more stacato like if I remember
Also, wasn't it James Caan and 'The Fopp' in Mickey Blue Eyes that repeated "Furr-ghedda b'art eet!"? (God, what a bad, bad film....)
@Marc : doesn't seem right, but his original script which was lengthly was heavily cut by Mr.Scott. Think it's fairly true, but there are so many variations on the net, it's difficult to check without watching it again.. (oh well, guess I'll have to watch it again! he he)
"Your gonna need a bigger boat" -- Jaws
"PC Load Letter? What the F*** does that mean?" -- Office Space
"I came for the waters...I was misinformed" -- Casablanca
"Elwood: It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tanks of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.
Jake: Hit it." -- The Blues Brothers
How can they possibly have come to this staggeringly unimpressive conclusion?
Because of course no-one who wasn't referring to Arnie's classic Terminator line would use the phrase "I'll be back".
Also I somehow don't believe many people use that whole quote from blade runner at number 8 on a regular basis.
I've used the 'amanfrommars' icon because this article makes about as much sense as something he'd wrote.
@ Marc. fairly sure that is the dialogue in the director's cut.
My fave quote from withnail is "i mean to have you, even if it must be burglary"
other choice quotes (and paraphrases) which for some reason i use a lot;
"We're gonna get japped, we're gonna get japped" in a panicky voice
"we're on a mission from god"
"Oh God! Oh Jesus Christ!"
"Tora! Tora! Tora!"
"You wanna get high, man?"
"Bullshit, Mr Han-man"
"you don't like my rice?"
"there's a dog loose in the woods!"
"This stuff will make you a god damned sexual Tyrannosaurus, just like me"
Aaaaaaddddddrrrrrrrrriiiiiiaaaaaannnnn!
and lots more. If you know all the movies they're taken from, you too are a loser!
I would add that "I'll be back" only counts as a quote if you say it in a crap accent.
Who on Earth says "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die." in their everyday conversation?
So Segal, Van Damme and Arnie are thinking of ways to revive their movie careers. Segal says: "We need to do something with more pathos, so we get taken seriously".
Arnie responds: "Yes - something that will win an Oscar",
so Jean-Claude suggests: "How about a history of famous composers? I've always admired Wagner, I could play him".
Segal says: "No no, Rachmaninov is the best, I'll play the Russian"...
To which Arnie simply says: "I'll be Bach"

Not sure I'm impressed by this survey - some of these quotes are far too wordy to actually get used in conversation. It all seems a bit contrived. Also, what about:
"How do I get out of this chicken-sh*t outfit?" Aliens
"Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen!" Aliens
"Watch those corners!" Aliens
"I say we take off, nuke the site from orbit - it's the only way to be sure" Aliens
"Get away from her you b*tch!" Aliens
"Not bad, for a human" Aliens
"It's game over, man, game over!" Aliens
"Ease down Ripley, you're just grinding metal." Aliens
"We're on a express elevator to hell.... going down" Aliens
"All I need to know, is where they are." Aliens
"What are we supposed to use, man, bad language?" Aliens
"A day in the corps is like a day on the farm!" Aliens
"I may be synthetic, but I'm not stupid" Aliens
"Hey, Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?" / "No. Have you?" Aliens
There are many more!
Probably says a lot about the types of conversation I have, but some of my most-quoted would have to be from Full Metal Jacket, namely "what is your major malfunction numbnuts?" and snippets of the "me sucky sucky, me love you long time" "too beacoup" scene.
That, and "We were some where near Barstow on the edge of the dessert when the drugs began to take hold.".
All suitably butchered to fit the situation of course.
It most certainly is...
"'I fuck arses' ... who fucks arses? Maybe HE fucks arses!"
"I called him a ponce, and now I'm calling you one ... PONCE!"
"I have a heart condition, if you hit me it's murder!"
"Started coming on really 'bald' with me"
"If I spiked you you'd know you'd been spoken too"
"If I medicined you, you'd think a brain tumour was a birthday present"
"Cool your boots, man"
"You can shove it up your arse for nothing and fuck off while you're doing it"
"Danny's lost his clog!"
"My thumbs have gone weird!"
"We're not from London, you know" .. "I don't care where you come from!"
"Are you the farmer?".. "Stop saying that Withnail, of course he's the FUCKING farmer!"
"I want something's flesh!"
"I've been watching you - especially you, prancing like a TIT, you want workin' on boy!"
"I'm not homosexual Monty!" .. "Yes you are, OF COURSE you are!"
And the list goes on and on...
> "They'll be coming after us as fast as they can"
> "And that's pretty fast actually"
> "Not as fast as us" <-- This is delivered in the most contemptous manner
> possbile.
I do believe that little exchange is from Blake's 7, Sir. Now about my prize; I demand the finest wines available to humanity. And cake.
I remember more the "I'll be back" line from when I first watched it, because of the carnage that immediately follows that scene. However, I watched the "EDITED FOR TELEVISION" version, so I think that the "Fuck you, asshole" line may have been cut out back then... *and* I was like 5 years old.
Hm... I wonder why "Mr. Sulu, Warp Speed" isn't one of those quotes. My dad used to use that line when entering the highway, which usually meant we'd grab on to anything as he would speed up to 160+ km/h. Ow.
As for Goldfinger's "I expect you to DIE, Mr. Bond!", it really sounds like the most badass line ever given by a Bond villain. Right to the point: I don't want you to talk, or fight, or whatever. I want you to die! bahahahahaha!!! Note that 007 had *no* means of escape, it is only because of his bluff that he is able to save his arse. Oops!
All those Aliens quotes and you missed...
"They're coming out of the god-damned walls" - used by me a lot when getting pwnd in any FPS.
"They mostly come out at night... mostly" - just because it's a little bit creepy.
----
also
"Shut it down, shut it down forever" - Dark City
"I know Kung Fu" - the Matrix
"Say hello to my little friend" - Carlito's Way (I think) parodied in Warcraft 3 (click on Trolls lots).
"This is my boomstick", "Gimme some sugar baby", "Goody little two shoes..." - actually, fuck it, just about anything ever said by Bruce Campbell in any of the Evil Dead films... blatently ripped off for Duke Nukem.
And if you're gonna get into the world of gaming "The cake is a lie" is about to becomes an instant classic!
"I'll have what she's having..."
... oh look - there's a big black helicopter outside. A nice man from the Daily Mail is asking me if I know me... I said he's my evil twin brother. Can I stay in this thread for a bit 'till the heat dies down?
"They're coming to take me away..."
My own personal favourites...
"Ok - we did the nose, but she IS a witch" and
"Come back here and I'll bite your kneecaps"

Really now people, there are soem things which should CLEARLY not be forgotten.
"Run Forrest! RUN!"
"There's a glitch in the Matrix" (ok, I know its not a direct quote but close enough)
"I'm a doctor, not an engineer"
"I jus' can't do it captain, she's got no more power" (insert cheesy Scottish accent here)
This post has been deleted by its author
"If it bleeds, we can kill it".
"You sending the Wolf?"
"Well I'm a mushroom cloud laying mutherfucker, mutherfucker!"
"Please, call me Winston"
"I'll be back!"... "Only in the re-runs".
"Spock, you have the con"... "Who the fuck is Spock?"
"It's life Jim, but not as we know it"
Ah, the #2 source of apt quotes in our IT shop (just after MPFC). More overlooked gems:
"Fuck it, Dude, let's go bowling" -- Whenever it's pub time!
"Shomer fucking shabbos" -- Whenever it's one's turn to carry the off-hours pager.
"That rug really tied the room together" -- Whenever kit goes tits up.
"I am the walrus" and "At least I'm housebroken" -- Whenever someone's inane comment calls for a suitable retort.
But these and many other Coen-isms are prolly too existential to make any public list. (PS: we patiently await the day the BOFH finally transcends petty reality to achieve abidement with The Dude.)
/Yes, the coat with the pee stains. The Nihilists are already waiting outside for me./
Paul Verhoeven screwed up.
Arnie's original line was "Fuck you, asshole" (selected from a menu of three possible responses seen on his head-up display, IIIRC).
The little old lady in Total Recall says "Fuck you, you asshole".
Totally spoiled the rhythm and meter of it, if you ask me. Every time I see that film, it just jars. I want to grab the little old lady and smack her around, while shouting "Fuck you and your "fuck you, you asshole, asshole", it's "fuck you, asshole", you asshole".
Oh, and Casablanca? "Play it", "Play it, Sam", and "Play it once, Sam". But never "Play it /again/". Which is the way it's usually (mis-)remembered.
Or did you mean "Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship"?
"It was Emperor Ming the Merciless who said "The world shall hear from me again""
The first - second? - chap was right, it was Fu Manchu, at least in the 1960s Hammer films with Christopher Lee, e.g. "The Brides of Fu Manchu". Unfortunately the IMDB doesn't have a quotes listing for any of them.
I don't think Ming the Merciless had a clever death quote. He probably wouldn't talk about the world hearing from him again; which world? He was more interested in conquering the universe, individual little planets were playthings for him.
I choose Paris Hilton as my avatar because, after all, we'll always have Paris.
Although many of the quotes called out here by themselves are used regularly, the movie which can inspire the most quotes has to be Monty Python and the Holy Grail! I give you...
"Go Away or I shall Taunt you again.."
"Fetcher la vache..."
"It's only a flesh wound!"
"Some call me.... tim"
"What is your Quest?"
"It's got fangs..."
I am sure each of these generated another 5 quotes which can be recited by many a friend or colleague in any home of office in Canada. I won't speak for the rest of the world but This has to be the movie that is most quotable.
I was wrong, it wasn't Fu Manchu, his was indeed "The world shall hear from me again"
It was "The Spirit of Dark and Lonely water". Remember that BBC public information film telling children not to play near lakes? It finished with that echoing "I'll be back-ack-ack" http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4690150.stm
On the TV in the 70's like Fu, hence my confusion...
Ah, now I can get me coat & go home in peace
If you hold back anything, I'll kill ya. If you bend the truth, or I think you're bending the truth, I'll kill ya. If you forget anything, I'll kill ya. In fact, you're gonna have to work very hard to stay alive Nick. Now, do you understand everything I've just said? Cause' if you don't, I'll kill ya! Now, Mr Bubble and Squeak, you may enlighten me.
Not when the price is 200 pound it ain't! And certainly not when you've got Liberia's deficit in your skyrocket. Tighter than a duck's butt you are. Now, lemme feel the fibre of your fabric.
Yeah, little bit of pain never hurt anybody. If you know what I mean. Also, I think knives are a good idea. Big, fuck-off shiny ones. Ones that look like they could skin a crocodile. Knives are good, because they don't make any noise, and the less noise they make, the more likely we are to use them. Shit 'em right up. Makes it look like we're serious. Guns for show, knives for a pro.
Harry didn't think that he did a very good job, so he grabbed the nearest thing to hand, which just so happened to be a 15 inch black rubber cock, and proceeded to beat poor old Smithy to death with. And that was seen as a nice way to go. Now, that, is why you pay Hatchet Harry, when you owe.
Eddie: They're armed.
Soap: What was that? Armed? What do you mean armed? Armed with what?
Eddie: Err, bad breath, colorful language, feather duster... what do you think they're gonna be armed with? Guns, you tit!
You cocked up the Dirty Harry quote. Here it is, in it's unabridged form:
"I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?"
"We're not in Kansas anymore" Wizard of Oz
"There's no place like home" Wizard of Oz
"Doh!" The Simpsons
"Mind if I have a some of your tasty beverage?" Pulp Fiction
"I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that" 2001 A Space Odyssey
"What we have here is a failure to communicate" Cool Hand Luke
"The Dude abides" The Big Lebowski
"That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age" Dazed and Confused
"All I'm saying is that if I ever start referring to these as the best years of my life - remind me to kill myself" Dazed and Confused
"MESS WITH THE BEST DIE LIKE THE REST" Hackers
and that is just off the top of my head

Woah Ugly (The three musketeers)
How can the same s**t happen to the same guy twice (Die Hard 2)

Any of you f**king pricks move and I'll execute every motherf**king last one of ye! (Pulp Fiction)
I'm gonna get medival on your ass (Pulp Fiction)
Portal is by far the most quoted thing amongst my friends (most of us are doing Further Maths at college and so are all massive geeks).
"The cake is a lie"
"2 + 2 is..... 10... in base 4!! I'm fine!!"
"You can't kill me, i have the only permanent back up of your brain. Don't believe me? look, I'll put you in (squeaky voice) 'HELLO'. Look, that's you, see how stupid you sound!!"
"Now place the weighted storage cube on the heavy duty supercolliding super button"
"There was even going to be a party for you. A big party that all your friends were invited to. I invited your best friend the companion cube. Of course, he couldn't come because you murdered him. All your other friends couldn't come either because you don't have any other friends because of how unlikable you are. Unlikable, it says so here in your personnel file: Unlikable. Liked by no one. A bitter, unlikable loner whose passing shall not be mourned. SHALL. NOT. BE. MOURNED. That's exactly what it says. Very formal. Very official. It also says you're adopted, so that's funny too."
"Aperture science promises that you will be in no danger during the tests, if there is any danger, you will be given proper safety instructions, for example: the floor of this room will kill you, try not to touch it"
And of course singing the end theme whenever possible
(to those that cry spoiler, thats barely scratching the surface of funny quotes from that game....)
They didn't even include any quotes from Spaceballs. How could that happen?
1... 2... 3... 4... 5... That's the combination to the airshield.
That sound like something an idiot would use on their luggage.
Oh my god, that's the same combination on my luggage!
We're passing Ludicrous Speed. We've gone... Plaid!
Oh great, a druish princess...
I'm Barf, Barfolomew.
And just so many more
Or how about Airplane:
Anyone here speak Jive?
Unger, Roger. Roger, Over. Over, Unger.
This was a bad day to give up *take you choice*.
And as for Star Wars, who can forget:
You scruffy, *something* nerfherder.
Who are you calling scruffy?
DELIA: This is my art, and it is dangerous! Do you think I want to die like this?
BETELGEUSE: Not so fast, round boy. We're gonna have some laughs.
OTHO: Ugh. Deliver me from L.L. Bean.
LYDIA: I myself am... strange and unusual.
BETELGEUSE: We've come for your daughter, Chuck!
LYDIA: You can't scare her. She's sleeping with Prince Valium tonight.
BERNARD: DELIA, you are a flake. You have always been a flake. If you insist on frightening people, do it with your sculpture.
BARBARA: [as BETELGEUSE] Learn to throw your voice! Fool your friends! Fun at parties!
BETELGEUSE: It's showwwtime!
