back to article Aussie politicos in a froth over naval boob jobs

Australian politicians have criticised a decision by armed forces medical authorities to pay for two female sailors' breast enlargement operations. The BBC reported yesterday that a plastic surgeon in Australia said he had carried out two such procedures for a total cost of around £8,500. Just to put this in perspective, that …

    I smell a story here

Sounds to me like the OZ generals are trying to get a good (two handed) grip of this issue.

Or maybe they are actually a DSEi type Black Helicopter Ops Flotation aids and its just a cover storyhiding in (hopefully) plain sight.

    Mental Health

"This presumably means that the breast enlargements had been recommended by a psychiatrist as necessary to the female sailors' mental health."

..or maybe the priority here was the "mental health" of all their fellow sailors?

Personally, I'm waiting for next years calender that the Navy can now produce to finance further such endeavours.

I seem to remember similar stories over here not so long ago.

Mr Lewis, I admire and enjoy your articles, but nicking Joe Fay's tag line is a bust. Prepare to be cleaved in half by the readership.

    Hypocrisy. What's new?

Not being australian I can't be 100% certain, however I'm pretty sure that this whole psychological excuse for things like boob jobs is simply the end result of policies implemented by labour when they were in power down there.

    And the pictures ????

Where are the pictures ??? Obviously with before and after pics we could see soon if it was a medical necessity.

    It's about security

The Australian lawmakers are obviously and justifiably concerned by the use of the Bulgarian airbag technology in their classified naval projects without a proper tender and security clearance.

    The British Army goes further!

Whilst serving with the British Army a few years ago my Sergeant Major (A somehwat ugly little man) went through a full sex change paid for by the forces AND was kept on in the same rank (although he was moved to another unit)....

It says quite clearly, "Nonetheless, opposition Labor politicos still thought it was appropriate to demand full details." I agree, share the "full details" with us!

    Standardization everywhere !

Soon to be seen on the recruitment panels : "Join the Army and you'll become a 34D !"

Right, I'm out the door already.

    Floatation required surely?

Must help save cash on life jackets though....

    Not really

I'm not sure what about labor, the current gov has been in power over 11 years. and We (Australian) is really not what you think. We have a king - King Howard. Whos word is the law, and we all must be enslaved.

Any way, I doubt labor gov had this happened, or King Howard will surely speak loudly "you have done it before".

Speaking of our military recruitment, it has been in talking for years that there is no enough people join the military, and especially lack of women. So it appears a good idea they have there.

    Tagline: Storm, B-cup

Surely since they're in the navy, that should be a C cup? Geddit? Sea cup? No?

Forget the coat, I'm getting my sword. Suicide's the only option after a pun that dreadful.

  17. Chris

    Psychological?

I'm depressed. And suicidal. I have no self-esteem. I'm worthless and I can't do my job. However, I just know that if you give me two million dollars, I'll feel like my old self again, with no more psychological issues.

Oh, and if you're looking to make some quick cash, my uncle the King of ThisPlaceNeverExisted left $274,000,000,000,000 to me, but because of politics I'm not allowed to touch it. But you can claim it, and we can share it. Just send me $50,000 and I'll tell you how. Alternatively, I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn you may be interested in. And an old statue that we obviously need to get rid of since it's popular to hate all things French. And there's this little building in Texas called "The Alamo" that I'm looking to offload.

    On the gripping hand...

the apparent psychological necessity for bigger tits suggests something a bit unfortunate about the rest of the RAN. Did the young ladies get mistaken for cabinboys or something?

I think I found the two ladies in question - ok maybe not them but I'm sure the ladies in the last two pictures could go for a bit of a boost if the aussie nation is paying for them...

    Urban Myth

Next time you run one of these endlessly circulating column fillers, post a reference, so we can see who else has embarassed themselves.

By the way, the question of political overview of medical records is as contentious as the question of medical benefits for soldiers and sailors. I'd like to see the reaction if something like this really was pulled up for review in parliment.

If the Navy paid for them

Do they remain the property of the Navy after the ladies leave ?

Or as a taxpayer funded item, do they rightfully belong to us - the taxpaying citizens of Australia ? I for one would like to get my hands on the results of my tax dollar at work.. something tangible...

Don't you mean "another unit was moved to him" ??

  24. pondscum

    The real reason

The two girls in question had been getting "teased" (effectively verbally abused) because of the size of their breasts. In reality, the military were required to prevent this happening (duty of care etc.), hence the boob jobs.

It mainly came to light because the Labor party are looking for things to complain about. After all, they have already blamed John Howard for...

    The drought

    Global warming.

    The American mortgage crisis.

    Internet pornography

    The Beaconsfield mining accident.

No, I think a unit was removed FROM him...

    @Brett - Interesting conclusion

If the Navy men went er, overboard in terms of sexual harrassment, we should not only condone it, but try to change the situation to please the men as much as possible? Oh, that's right, it's "This Man's Navy."

    stress

If small airbags are sending them mental wait till the enemy start lobbing 17" shells at them!
