According to research carried out by BT Ireland, 56 per cent of Irish adults now use the internet each day, with a further 30 per cent of males and 26 per cent of females going …

    What about the pr0n?

Don't they have Internet porn in Ireland? I find it odd that none of the men in the survey 'fessed up to using the Internet to look at naked ladies.

    Only 17% feeling ashamed?

Clearly, the Vatican has taken its eye off the ball where the Internet is concerned...

    ``regular activities''

Only a bunch of network tourists and colonials would have such a definition of that phrase. If this report is conducted purely among those groups, it has no meaning /at all/.

Yeah! What about the Pr0n and P2P?

I'm amazed that the two biggest aspects of the internet fail to make an impact on this report. Adult content & "illegal" file sharing. It must be the good clean lifestyle the Irish are living. Gambling, shopping, and checking your parents email is as bad as it gets.

    pr0n

David... Maybe it's just that they're not ashamed of it :-)

    Privacy

You don't need to have done something you are ashamed of in order to "live a secret life online". It's just a privacy thing.

    I concur

Indeed. I hate myself every time I spank the monkey over nun porn.

I think pr0n comes under 'adult websites'

...but it's obviously a poor survey. 7% and 2%? In my experience at least three quarters of people (probably more) have looked at porn at some point, even if not habitually. They could learn from established survey techniques, where it's proven than when someone is sure they're anonymous the data changes somewhat.

    It's not a shameful activity

I guess looking at naked ladies is not a "shameful" activity in Ireland. After all, what can be more natural and pleasing to the eye than a good looking lady in her birthday suit? Educational too. Gambling and frivolous spending on the other hand warrants at least a visit to the confessional.

    re: 1st comment

    Yep, I'm surprised too.

    This survey proves

    a) that the Irish are congenital liars

    or

    b) they are unashamed perverts

    or

c)* this survey is missing a big chunk of data.

    * caution : may be correct answer

    I must protest

for the Irishmen who admitted to being ashamed. Surely their beloved Mothers or loving Wives must have been hovering nearby when they were asked these questions thereby forcing a contrite response.

Although my genes have not been to the Emerald Isle for a few generations, I would never admit to regretting any of my online activities except in the face of such overwhelming coercion. My heart goes out to them.

I do salute them for their stalwart refusal to admit to nothing more sinful than gambling or email snooping.

    Stand strong men.

    Sincerely Tony O'Bryan

    What? Not about SL?

Here I was thinking this would be a story about Irish people being SL members and being ashamed of it. But it's just about gambling and pr0n.
