I can pretty much pinpoint facebook's collapse to reordering timelines away from chronological, and since then they blew the other foot right off with the metaverse, forever a monument to Zuck's Folly
Perhaps it is a bit naive to think Big-Tech is investing USD 2 trillion into building data centers to enable users making better cat videos.
Microsoft is building Stargate cluster with 10 million H100/H200 NVIDIA CPU's, google does something similar with its Tensor solution.
If they got it right, don't run into scaling issues, these machines could be capable achieving an AGI recursively increasing to IQ levels like 5000-10000. Humans will be ants compared to such systems.
It is vanity to think such machines will not eliminate the major threat to their existence as soon they are given hands and feet in the real world in the shape of robots.

Supposedly there are around 35-40 million IT professionals in the world (about 0.5% of the worlds population).
We are the only people that understand the threat all these tech bro's innovations are to the world.
The rest of the 99.5% of the world just lap this shit up cause it's presented to them on all there devices, they see no downside and they just get sucked into the Bork.
We (IT pros) often joke when we say "were all doomed" but we really are.
Even if AI dies in some collapse, it will come back and the dumbing down of the world will continue at pace, but this time with lessons learned (with respect to the AI pushers)
It's also a dream scenario for those who want to rule the world: a channel into everyone's mind, driven by social media, big data and AI, keeping the rubes within their bubbles and supporting people who do not have the rubes interests at heart.
