back to article US Army seeks human AI officers to manage its battle bots

The US Army has been all-in on becoming an AI-powered outfit for some time, and now it's creating a career path for officers to specialize in making its automation dreams come true.  The new AI/ML officer area of concentration will begin accepting candidates from the Army's existing officer corps in January through the …

    Existing Officer Corp ?

My impression of the typical military career is that the attraction is to the leadership role—being masters of men which has a cachet that masters of machines might not.

Still it could be the ultimate WFH gig; even a career path for the chronic gamer.

Young Bang is an unfortunate name for anyone involved with munitions. The are old bangs, there are bold bangs but there are no old bold bangs. Definitely not the name for a powder monkey.

† intended to gender inclusive besides I suspect mistresses of men could convey the wrong impression altogether.

I only knew a few people my age that joined the service, their goal was 20 years and out, draw the military pension and get another, better, cushier job.

    Ho hum !!!

All the recent quests to find people to head up roles to control the use/aquisition of 'AI' both commercial & military have one driver.

That driver is to find a 'patsy' to take the blame when 'AI' goes off piste and/or breaks all the so called rules.

The possibility of such occurences are extremely likely as the rules are still being made/agreed while 'AI' is being foisted on the populace with a general lack of care and unjustified haste.

Someone will be caught out and there MUST be someone to carry the can, at the end of the day !!!

Your potential high salary, 'nice' title and very localised 'power' within the organisation will not be enough to compensate for the potential substantial length of incarceration yet to come, for which the company will thank you most profusely ... before breaking all links with a 'now' criminal and 'very' ex-employee !!!

Spend your salary while you can ... BUT put something 'substantial' on one side for 'legal assistance', perhaps even a 'monthly retainer' ... just in case !!!

    :)

Yes ... I was thinking they wanted someone to be in charge of a bunch of stuff which does not work as advertised.

    Simpsons predicted it again

"The wars of the future will not be fought on a battlefield or at sea.

They will be fought in space -- or possibly on top of a very tall mountain.

In either case, most of the actual fighting will be done by small robots

And as you go forth today, remember always your duty is clear--

To build and maintain those robots."

Great Plan for a Welcome and Live Operational Virtual Environment Change.

How quickly do you think it will take human US Army AI officers managing battle bots to realise the real enemy is embedded within and in the political Senate and Congressional ranks that conspire to direct and command and control their hostile overseas actions creating ever more capable and belligerent opponents hell bent on rendering their missions horrendously expensive and incapable of achieving any sort of attractive success ........ and in so doing alter the targets for their battle bots?

And who is to say such battle bots do not themselves evolve and resolve to advise their human US Army AI officers of the necessary redirection of military regime change assets?
