back to article China bans HPC and UAV exports, citing national security

China has banned the unlicensed export of supercomputers and certain types of unmanned aerial vehicles. The bans, announced here and since shoved through internet translat-o-trons by El Reg, targets machines of eight petaflops or more with 2 Gbps of networking capacity. The June 2015 top 500 supercomputer list records only …

A page from the USA playbook then?

I guess this is a good start... yet, I wonder how much of their tech has been taken from others and this is to ensure that the "others" don't find out about it.

      Quite so, Mark 85,

If your tech/intellectual property is good, and able with further enablement to be realised as great and unusually powerful and disturbingly more advanced than homegrown, is such always ripe for temptation to induce and supply the masses and sub-prime counterfeit reproduction. But such never leads to anywhere.

Imitation is the sincerest phorm of flattery in phishing?

I'm not, I just find that the TTP* varies. The above is a short one :)

          * TTP: Time To Parse. Includes TTG (Time To Grok).

          :)

Bravo, James 51. Well played, sir.

A fine prime example of the way to go into the future with a flattery to achieve rather than deceive. Not a novel concept, I'm sure, but one which only a precious few would, if ever they can, practise well and cherish above and beyond most everything else which has been created to deliver a fools' gold paradise with ponzi systems and neo-fascist capital market manipulations.

You find sense and alternative greater enlightenment, worrying, James 51? Why not simply complex and thoroughly exciting ..... although that too can be wonderfully frightening and quite beautifully terrifying and petrifying if one has not mastered the arts of its pleasures with attack and defence in its treasures?

    Delicious irony..

So, I guess we'll now see US people trying to smuggle tech from China, and getting convicted by the Chinese courts when caught. When that happens I suspect US media will be thoroughly entertaining to read.

What does that mean exactly? You can't sell a computer with 3 1Gbps network adapters in it?
