back to article Blighty: Welcome your new, faceless MI6 chief – Alex Younger

Career spook Alex Younger has been named as the new head of MI6, replacing Sir John Sawers. Before taking up his position as boss of the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), which is more widely known as MI6, Younger oversaw its global operations. After joining in 1991, he was posted to Europe and the Middle East, before …

Depends on whether or not the field in question is full of well dressed pumpkins.

He was a field officer. Its kind of different that what you're I think you're imagining. They run assets, issue orders, set targets, recruit new assets and such. He probably never left Kabul or whatever FOB he was at though. Even if he was having to deal with local assets as long as he can grow a beard and sort of speak the language, he'd be fine. Keep in mind that in Afghanistan, there are a bunch of light skinned and light haired people in other ethnic groups than the Pashtuns.

You're right Frank! A Beard would really help him 'blend in', in fact it would put Mystique to shame.

The DA-Notice or Defence Advisory Notice is an official request to news editors not to publish ...

items on specified subjects for reasons of national security. Note the word 'request'.

Stripping away the thin veneer of 'security' seems to be to be the raison d'etre of El Reg.

Given how the UK Government and it's agencies have abused public trust, they don't deserve any consideration from the Press.

This guy, like scum on a pan of stew, has floated to the top whilst the magic goes under the surface. He doesn't do much apart from costing the UK taxpayers a fortune from dark-windowed, chauffeur driven cars, private jets, home security - just to stroke his ego.

If Younger dropped dead tomorrow, do you think much would be affected operationally?

El Reg, go tell the DA Notice Committee to forget it. Subservience doesn't suit you.

Re: The DA-Notice or Defence Advisory Notice ...

They pretty much have already stuck up two fingers to the committee by telling everyone where they can find uncensored pictures and then lampooning the whole censorship issue with their 'redacted' image? What better way to point out the stupidity of the D-Notice than to completely subvert it without actually breaking it?

You really don't want to be on the bad side of these folks though.

    Thumb Up

    Re: The Photo...

Did El Reg commission 'Banksy' to do the Redacting? If not then someone on your staff has a very promising future in world of art.

Well if things don't work out with the new job I think he could have a promising (orange) lollipop-man career ahead of him.

    Are they over 16?

Isn't bigamy and polygamy illegal in the UK?

    I know paedophilia is.

We need to know the answers.

Here is some news of revised views on Alex Younger's competition, or is that really the opposition .....

And .... if MI6 and/or any of those sorts of Intelligence Community Agencies are reacting to global events and trailed news stories, are they leading diddly squat with their reactionary support of that and those novel noble ignoble actions.

Is the Office of Cyber Security a MODified DODgy sinecure and Foreign Office money laundering operation? And if not, why not, whenever so much can be so successfully churned in plain sight of regulatory oversight? And is it and IT also MI6 competition and the reactionary opposition which be leading Madness and Mayhem into/with CHAOS ...... Cloud[s] Hosting Advanced Operating Systems .

I wonder what Sir Humphrey thinks of him?

As any fan of Yes Minister / Yes Prime Minister will know, he will have his work cut out dealing with the Civil Services mandarins, and the politicians on top of that.

Cold War era trenchcoat seems appropriate ----------------------------------------------->
